The Contender

In the book The Contender, by Robert Lipsyte, Alfred Brooks a teenage boy that is living in brooklyn new york. When alfreds friend James starts running with a gang and gets in deep with them Alfred has no choice but to leave James as a friend and move on. When Alfred tells James that the store he works at has alot of money in it but forgets to mention that there is a new secerity system. James gets caught and arrested. The gang is out looking to get back at Alfred and do. They find him walking one day and beat the heck out of him. Henrey and his father find Alfred in an ally and help him home when Alfred and Henrey start hanging out he starts going to Donatelli's gym Alfred wants to become a boxer. He gives up for about a month and then gets into it with no more looking back. Alfred gets his chance and wins when he wants to find out if he is a contender or not he faces his biggest challenge yet. i give this book a 7 out of 10 because the book was a fast and easy read but was still interesting.
