Son of the Mob

In the book Son of the Mob by Gordon Korman, Vince is a senior in high school. On the outside it looks like he is a normal kid in school when really his dad runs the mob with his family. This book has many twists and turns in it. We have Alex, Vince's bestfriend since forever. Alex is one of the kids that's "all about us" or "what about our love life" or "you're ruining our football fame". When Vince meets Kendra that's when it really gets heated up. Things starts in the football locker room and never end. I give the book 9/10 because I think that there were parts that could of been better but it was an over all good book.

SOLD

Patirica McCormick wrote SOLD and was awarded as one of the best selling authors. This book was also the finalist for the National Book Award. If I would say one word about this book it would be "survival." A young thirteen year old girl named Lakshmi lives in Nepal in a shack on a mountain with her mother, step father, younger brother, and older sister. Lakshmi is just a regular young girl that goes to school and enjoys doing things like playing with her best friend, raising her goat, and just simple pleasures in life. Lakshmi and her family struggle to make ends meet and so Lakshmi is willing to go work in the city, which is a place with gold top roofs and happy and rich people that don't have to worry about life. She is going to have to be a maid for some rich white family or that is what she thinks at least. Her mother doesn't want her to go but her step father says this has to be done, so one day he takes her to the city and she is taken to the "Happiness House" where there are a bunch of little girls in pretty dresses with their hair and make up all done. Lakshmi soon realises that her step father has sold her into prostitution. Not only is she having to be brought into prostitution but she is also beaten almost daily, starved, and mistreated. In order for her to come home she must pay off her debt to Mumtaz, the boss at the house. She will never be able to do this under this evil lady's power so read this book to know what happens to Lakshmi!
~This book makes you realise what you have and that your life isn't so bad after all. It also shows a lot of inspiration due to the about of courage, strength, heart, etc. Lakshmi has. Lastly, this book makes you want to do something about this horrible issue that is still going on today!

A Million Little Pieces

This story is about a 23-year-old drug addict and alcoholic and his struggle through rehab. When he arrives the rehabilitation center in Minnesota, driven by his fearful parents, he was already near death, some were even surprised he was still alive. Through his time recovering he breaks the rules and meets a girl named, Lilly. They both help eachother through their addictions and fall in love. He refuses to believe in the twelve steps, AA, or any higher power. Even though the counselors and doctors don't think James plan of just saying no will work out he figures out how to face his consequences and the terrible things he's done. He owns his bad decisions that he had made and never considers himself a victim of anything. I think A Million Little Pieces was a really good book and would recommend it to others.
