Mark Levin: Liberty and Tyranny

When I started reading liberty and tyranny I have to say it was pretty amazing. I have had to listen to talk radio with my dad for a lot of my life but I never really knew why he did and now that I'm coming to voting age this book helps to put a lot of things into perspective especially why he always listened to it. it talks about a lot of things from the near communistic power of f.d.r. to current issues plaguing this country. Mark really impressed me when i read this book because it wasn't a biast vote republican book. he just said that the people he supports could come from any party but right the best way in is through the republican party. he talks a lot about conservative values, the attacks on freedom, the rise of the welfare state, the parental disconnect with their children education, the loss of morality, the rise of the global cooling then global warming scandal, the hundreds billions of dollars in debt and tens trillions in unfunded obligations, the great communicator ronald reagan, the liberal takeover of the media, the liberal takeover of schools and union groups, the breakdown of national security through reduction of our nuclear arms allowance for communist dictators to acquire them, the breakdown of the border, backroom deals, bills passed that the american people have made known they dont want, an activist supreme court acting outside there abilities and the list goes on and on. The real purpose of this book is a warning to the people of america that if we keep going down the road were going america is no longer going to be the land of the free. We are now on a fast track to socialism and if we become socialist there will be nowehere free left on the planet, we are the last great bastion of freedom, and freedom is never more than one generation from ectintion. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.

Street Pharm


The book Street Pharm by Allison van Diepen, is about a young boy named Ty who lives the life of a hustler. He doesnt go to school and when he does he gets kicked out. When his mom makes him go to another school he meets the girl of his dreams but hes not trying to have a girlfriend. Ty has followed his dads footsteps and taken over the family buisness ever since his dad went to prison. But when compititon comes to Brooklyn Ty doesnt know what to do. Will he loose the family buisness and his life or will he manage to make it out on top as the King of the streets.
I thought it was a really good book and I really enjoyed reading it. I would rate this book 8 out of 10 because it gives you that I want to read more feeling and makes you want to keep turning the pages.

Ed Gein, Psycho


Ed Gein, Psycho is a book about one of the most legendary, psychotic, serial cannibalistic killers in Wisconsin that has inspired many books and films(Psycho, The Silence of the Lambs, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre)which created his ghoulish legacy of becoming the most hated and most loved killers of all America. Ed Gein, Psycho, starts out with his family history of being farmers and eventually gets too Ed Gein. The book at this part describes his personality as a kid and how his personality changes as he grows up and lives through his hard and lonely life. His father was a Big farmer and a very abusive parent and never stooped down to his level while his mother was very caring and really was the only person that loved Ed at the time.
One night Ed sneaked out toward the outhouse, which is out limits to Ed, out of suspicion because of weird and awful noise's. He slightly and gently cracks the door open and witnesses his ma and pa cutting and slicing open a pig for food. Ed felt faint and had a warm tingling feeling deep down below inside of him. This was the event that turned Ed's mind upside down and created the psycho that is Ed Gein.
This book is a very Graphically gory book and creates the wrong images in your mind which for some people makes them want too read on and learn and see more and for others would just want to drop the book and leave. for this reason i give this book a 6 out of 10. But i feel that this book is very intriguing and made me want too learn and read more about Ed Gein.

Street Pharm


Street Pharm, written by Allison van Diepen takes place in inner-city Brooklyn. Tyrone is the main character of Street pharm. Orlando, his father was put in jail for getting caught drug dealing. It's only right that Ty should take up the 'family' business. Right? Well, that's what he did. Ty knows what he needs to do.
His mom dosn't suspect anything in the beginning, but when he started getting kicked out of schools, she knew something was up. Especially when she found out he was hanging with Sonny, one of Orlandos buds.
"Darkman's in town and he's shutting us down" (page 107)
This Darkman guy is trying to take over Ty's customers, and more importantly, his business. Ty isn't going to stand there and let it happen. He's going to do something about it. Two questions, how is he going to do it, and does he succeed?
Ty learns his responsibilities as a teenager. He shouldn't have to worry about what his fathers done, or what his father wants him to do. There's a reason that Orlandos in jail.
Friends, enemies, everyones got them. Ty tries to stay away from friends outside of the business, and that means girls too. He dosn't want to get distracted and he dosn't want to put them in danger.
Ty is very smart and has a lot of common sense. I like this quote from him, "I DIDN'T OWN NO GUN. Having a gun wasn't gonna change my chances of getting shot. You don't hear about people saving themselves from drive-bys by shooting back. If you shoot back and you lucky enough to survive the drive-by, you still got the cops charging your..(butt)" (page 15).
Throughout this story, Ty goes through many emotions about life, and he wants to find out if his life is what he wants it to be. Does he want to deal the rest of his life, and possibly get thrown in jail right alongside his father, or does he want to make that one step forward on a new path?
Ty figures out what he needs to do, whether that be following his dads footsteps, or making his own.

Band of Brothers

The book, Band of Brothers, is set in World War II and is about the different experiences the soldiers in Easy company, 101st Airborne Division and the U.S Army all had endured throughout the war in Europe. Stephen E. Ambrose, the author of Band of Brothers, describes with full detail on how certain lives and experiences of the heroic soldiers changed from fighting through, D-Day, Operation Market-Garden, fighting in Bastogne and attacking there way too Hitler's Eagle's Nest. Band of Brothers starts out in Camp Toccoa, Georgia and it begins with describing the general backgrounds, the lifestyles and changes the men went through and showing the rigorous, extreme training the men of the Easy company, 506Th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division and the U.s Army had to go through to get ready for the assault on Normandy or most likely known as D-day. As the brutal training went on and jump school ended, the fully powered, disciplined parachute soldiers were ready for action. As the book goes on, Easy Company parachutes into normandy and begins too slowly progress throughout Germany and German powered countries. Stephen does a great job of showing the battle scenes and the gory images that make you feel like your in the battlefield with Easy Company. What really makes this a great book is how he interviewed alot of the living soldiers that participated in Easy Company and 101st Airborne Division and there perspectives and expierences they had while fighting in that gruesome war. I give this book a 9 out of 10 because of the great detail and is a great book for readers that like to read about Military History.

Hit Squad

In the book Hit Squad, by James Heneghan, we have mikey a transfer student from a bad school or atleast he thought that the school was bad. He starts at a new school grandview high school and he feels that it is just the same he gets into fights over his lunch money an his lunch. When mikey meets up with bridget and peter and whisper they form a kind of hit squad and start going after kids at the school that hurt other people when mikey gets his buddy heck involed in it things start getting really bad and people get hurt. I give this book a 5 out of 10 because i read it in two days i think that the book was good but it was very short and probly the fastest book that i have ever read.

The Contender

In the book The Contender, by Robert Lipsyte, Alfred Brooks a teenage boy that is living in brooklyn new york. When alfreds friend James starts running with a gang and gets in deep with them Alfred has no choice but to leave James as a friend and move on. When Alfred tells James that the store he works at has alot of money in it but forgets to mention that there is a new secerity system. James gets caught and arrested. The gang is out looking to get back at Alfred and do. They find him walking one day and beat the heck out of him. Henrey and his father find Alfred in an ally and help him home when Alfred and Henrey start hanging out he starts going to Donatelli's gym Alfred wants to become a boxer. He gives up for about a month and then gets into it with no more looking back. Alfred gets his chance and wins when he wants to find out if he is a contender or not he faces his biggest challenge yet. i give this book a 7 out of 10 because the book was a fast and easy read but was still interesting.

Raiders Night


In the book Raiders Night, by Robert Lipsyte, Matt, a seinor football player and his buddies from the team are into steriods. They have been for a few years. He has everything lined up for him and is a great football star. When Chris comes to town from another school and tries to take away the starting tight end spot from another captain things get rough. At raiders camp Chris gets hurt and ends up making it very hard for the team and the "back pack" to stick together. When you start getting into the book and really start thinking it throws a big right hook at you and you are left speechless. I give this book a 7 or 8 out of 10 because it has some very interesting parts in it. There are some down sides to the book but you will have to read to find them out.
